Frequent urination

Also called frequent urination, baar baar peshab, frequent urine, passing urine often, urine frequency

What this means

Passing urine more often than usual can be due to drinking more fluids, a urinary infection, an enlarged prostate in men, or high blood sugar. The cause guides the right care.

Safe to do at home

  • Note how often and how much you pass, and your fluid intake
  • Reduce caffeine and fluids close to bedtime
  • Get your blood sugar checked if you also feel very thirsty

Please do not do this alone

  • Do not severely restrict water on your own
  • Do not take medicines for the prostate or bladder without advice
  • Do not ignore it if combined with excessive thirst and weight loss

Book a consultation if

  • Frequency is new and persistent
  • It disturbs your sleep
  • It comes with burning, excessive thirst or weight changes

Get help immediately if

  • Inability to pass urine despite a strong urge
  • Frequency with high fever, back pain and vomiting
